This talk will have a double perspective: we will look at (some) English literary texts when and where they are always absolutely new to everyone who reads them for the first time, i.e. at their beginning. What is so special about the beginnings of texts? This question will take us to a wider field of inquiry: in which sense can we say that the writer of a novel, play or poem creates something new? And how is this possibly achieved?
